About Cara
"Photography Is My Passion"- Cara Jones
In 2007 Cara took part in an International Documentary Challenge where she created a five-minute documentary in only five days. She received three awards for her short documentary “Yesterday’s News” at Hot Docs, Canada’s largest International Documentary Festival. The awards received were Best use of Experimental Genre, Best Writing for a Documentary, Best Original Song (written by Betsy MacDonald and recorded by Highball Sound Productions) as well as Official Selection. Cara Jones grew up and attended school in Antigonish, NS. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art’s Degree (2001) from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, with a major in photography. Though early in her career, Cara already has a large following having exhibited in Halifax, Korea and Antigonish.In 2005 she studied wood sculpture in Australia with artist John Beasley. Her most recent 2006 film Road Runner, is a documentary about a young man with Cerebral Palsy. "Road Runner" was created with the support of Filmworks II and the Antigonish Regional Development Authority. It is currently being used in Nova Scotia public schools and educational conferences to educate about people with disabilities. It has also been purchased by both NSCAD and UNB for teaching purposes. Her summer 2006 photography installation entitled, Familiar Strangers, was held at the St. Francis Xavier University Art Gallery, and received rave reviews and financial support from Nova Scotia Tourism, Culture and Heritage. She continues to capture the beauty of life in rural Nova Scotia through portraits and landscape photography and video.
